Considering the current buzz surrounding pool installations, you may have thought about the idea of owning a pool.

The amount of information available about pool installation can be overwhelming and make the process seem daunting.

Fear Not!

Our objective is to provide you with ample information on the subject.

One of the primary inquiries we receive is:

“A common inquiry we receive is about the materials used to construct inground pools.”

In order to answer this question more comprehensively, it’s important to have a clear understanding of what exactly an inground pool is.

An inground pool is essentially a water-resistant structure that is installed into the ground.

The pool must be constructed in such a way that it retains water without any leakage and doesn’t pose any health hazards to swimmers, such as being lined with BPA plastic that could result in health issues over time.

This implies that there are several ways to construct an inground pool, but we will be discussing the three most common types of pools installed.

Lately, a type of pool that offers extra benefits has gained popularity.

1. Concrete pools

Surprise!

A staple in the modern construction world – Concrete. Overview

What does the term ‘Concrete Pool’ mean? It refers to a sunken pool made of concrete, which is created by spraying concrete through a nozzle at high pressure. This process is also called ‘Shotcrete’ or ‘Gunite’. The concrete is then shaped by hand to achieve the desired form before it sets. This must be done within the given time frame.

Creating something like this requires significant expertise, craftsmanship, and attention to detail to ensure that everything proceeds as intended.

The pool is then traditionally finished with plaster, tile, or some special type of Cementous mix.

Advantages

1. You can make it look and work exactly how you want, with different sizes, shapes, and features.
2. If you build it properly, it can last for a long time.
3. It comes in many different finishes to suit your preferences.

Disadvantages

1. It can be expensive because of the need for skilled labor and long working hours, which lead to high salaries.
2. Fixing or renewing interior finishes can be more expensive.
3. Building it takes a considerable amount of time.

2. Fibreglass pool

Overview

What is a Fibreglass pool?

A Fibreglass swimming pool is constructed using several materials like fibreglass strands and resins, which are added layer by layer onto a mold during various stages of the building process.

After the construction process, the Fiberglass pool is removed from the mold and transported to your residence.

After your contractor makes a hole, a crane is necessary to unload the Fibreglass pool and move it into the hole.

Advantages

1. It can be tailored according to your preferences in terms of shape, size, and features.
2. If constructed correctly, it can have a lengthy lifespan.
3. It offers a range of finishing options to choose from.

Limitations

1. Can be expensive due to a significant requirement of skilled labor (with high compensation and extended working hours).
2. Interior finishes have a higher cost of repairing or resurfacing.
3. The construction process takes a considerable amount of time.

3. Steel wall pool (vinyl liner)

Overview

What is a steel wall pool?

This kind of swimming pool is also known as a “Vinyl Liner Pool”. It’s constructed by using walls made of steel panels and a concrete floor.

After the construction of the pool, a large vinyl liner is laid out. This liner is created to fit the unique size of your pool. The installation of the liner is then carried out, and once it is complete, the pool can be filled with water and used for swimming.

Advantages

1. Fibreglass swimming pools can be tailored to suit your individual requirements.
2. With proper upkeep, Vinyl Liner Pools have a long lifespan of 15 years or more.
3. If properly maintained, these pools have low upkeep expenses.

Disadvantages

1. Heat can escape through steel walls
2. May not be completely pet-friendly
3. Longer installation time compared to Fibreglass (but still quicker than concrete)

*BONUS* – INSULATED CONCRETE POOL!

Overview

What is an Insulated Concrete Pool?

An ICF pool is constructed by using Insulated Concrete Forms. These forms are used to create a barrier that helps to regulate the pool’s temperature.

The insulated concrete pools have excellent insulation, which creates a “thermal break” and helps to retain heat within the pool water by preventing it from escaping into the cold ground surrounding the pool.

Insulated concrete pools can have many different finishes, such as tiles, plaster, cement-based materials, and vinyl liners.

Insulated Concrete pools have a lower probability of cracking because of the insulation that covers both the interior and exterior of the concrete.

We like these pools the most because they are very adaptable and of excellent standard compared to other pools available for purchase.

Advantages:

1. Excellent insulation (Saves money on heating the pool)
2. Highly adaptable and can be installed on any property.3.
3. Less likely to develop cracks or damage because of the insulation.
4. Prolongs the swimming season thanks to the high heat retention of the pool water.

Disadvantages

1. Slower to install than steel wall pools (though faster than standard concrete pools).
2. Construction can be challenging in freezing temperatures.
